citybooks Haarlem | Andrés Barba in The Low Lands
citybooks Haarlem started in 2017 . In April 2019, Spanish author Andrés Barba came to discover the city for two weeks. Together with the municipality of Haarlem, we set up his stay and two activities. One in the Haarlem Center Library and a small trip to the Spanish Intituto Cervantes in Utrecht. Prior to his stay in Haarlem, Andrés attended the Passa Porta Festival in Brussels, where he gave a fascinating interview.
Andrés can not only write attractively, he can also captivate the audience with his stories, anecdotes and humor during the public moments. Curious about what we mean? Watch this video interview by Marcia van der Zwan on behalf of Canvas Online:
In Haarlem, Leonor Ruiz and Andrés discussed the city and his experiences there until then, after which translators Irene van de Mheen and Adri Boon took over from her. Translation is inherent to citybooks, therefore Irene and Adri represented an important aspect of the project.
He spoke vividly about his son Roque, who came with him on the trip, and how they went to visit the age-old, world-famous organ of Haarlem. Will that be the inspiration for his citybook? The story will be published online soon!
