Translator David Colmer won the Vondel Translation Prize 2013 for The Misfortunates, the English translation of De helaasheid der dingen by Dimitri Verhulst. For citybooks he translated The Truth of the Matter by Peter Terrin into English.
Congratulations to Danielle Losman, too, who has completed the French translation of En mer, with which author Toine Heijmans won the Prix Médicis Etranger. Losman translated the citybooks by Frank Westerman, Stefan Hertmans, Serge van Duijnhoven, Bouke Billiet and Annelies Verbeke from Dutch into French.
Maud Vanhauwaert won the first VrouwDebuutPrijs (WomanDebutPrize) for poetry with her collection Ik ben mogelijk. (I am Possible). In the words of the judges, Vanhauwaert’s observations are ‘pin sharp and give a joyful description of the world around us, vivid with amazement.’ That’s something that you will notice too from the prose of her Lublin’s Stations of the Cross.
