Afrikaans: citybook Saskia de Coster - Honderd-en-veertig kilogram liefde
To mark the Stellenbosch edition of citybooks, Rentia Bartlett-Möhl has translated twelve Dutch-language Radiobooks and citybooks into Afrikaans and had them recorded in South Africa by professional actors. Each month, we’ll be introducing a new Afrikaans-language podcast.
Honderd-en-veertig kilogram liefde is the translation of Saskia de Coster’s citybook Honderdveertig kilo liefde. For English readers the variation between the two titles may seem negligible, but compare the two podcasts to experience their rich differences for yourself!
Saskia de Coster hasn’t just written a citybook about Skopje. In the spring of 2013 she spent two weeks in Stellenbosch. The resulting citybook, Wildebeest, is now available online to read in the original Dutch-language version. This story, too, will be online in Afrikaans (and in English and French) to read and to listen to soon.
Honderd-en-veertig kilogram liefde
A Hundred and Forty Kilos of Love is the tale of a wild-goose chase through Skopje for the sturdily built protagonist’s dream woman. During her travails she encounters a brash American lady, Salad Eaters, a fortune-teller and the Ur-Macedonian.
