citybooks @ Europalia Indonesia

Annelies Verbeke, Gustaaf Peek and Bouke Billiet were invited by deBuren to reside two weeks in Indonesia to write a citybook. During the EUROPALIA Indonesia arts biennial, these authors are present at a literary afternoon to talk about their experiences in Jakarta and Semarang.

DermotBolgerThe Irish author Dermot Bolger is the fifth guest author in Ypres. His citybooks residency coincides with the centennial commemoration of the death of Francis Ledwidge. This Irish poet and soldier fell during the Third Battle of Ypres. On 31 July 2017, Bolger will deliver an address during the official commemoration in Ypres.

Carmien Michels wrote the citybook Not Long Now about Munster. For the English translation, Carmien crossed the channel to where students of Dutch at British universities got to work translating her citybook. The students worked under the guidance of translator Jonathan Reeder as part of the UK Collaborative Translation Project 2017. Read more and watch the video.

One year ago poets Ghayath Almadhoun and Anne Vegter met for the first time on stage. Now they present their joint collection of poetry Ik hier jij daar. Ghayath took part in citybooks Ypres and Antwerp. Both these poems are published in the book. On May 10th Almadhoun and Vegter will read from their work and talk about this special collaboration at deBuren in Brussels.

brutaalFrom 5 -13 May, Bruges is the location for the brand new literary festival Bru∙Taal. A wide a range of activites takes place with international authors, amongst others citybooks authors Ghayath Almadhoun, Cees Nooteboom and Annelies Verbeke. In the larger framework of the festival, citybooks Bruges takes place. The first author to reside in and write a citybook inspired by this historic city is Hagar Peeters. She will read from her work and talk about her residency in Bruges during the festival too.
