Lisa Van Damme

Inspired by social photographers and equipped with a big sense of justice, Lisa Van Damme started studying photography at the age of 17. To her, photography is more than a goal, it is primarily a means to look at the world and at the same time to hold up a mirror to that world. Although interested in social problems, she will always act respectfully towards her subjects, refusing to search for the sensational or the dramatic. She aims to depict people she photographs as dignified human beings.

Right after graduating in 2007 at Narafi in Brussels, she made her first trip to Banjul to record the daily life in the capital of Gambia. In 2009 she returned to work voluntarily for SOS children villages. At this moment she teaches photography on a part-time basis.
